You’ve got (to have) the blues

17 Aug

Chanel’s Limited Edition Le Vernis Nail Colour collection exclusively for Fashion’s Night Out, of course.
And if you’re in New York, visit any of the three Chanel boutiques (two on Madison Avenue between Midtown East and the Upper East Side, and one on Spring Street in SoHo) and receive a complimentary manicure featuring these shades.

Where will you be?

The much-anticipated event listings are now official for Fashion’s Night Out, set for September 8th!
For those not in the know,
Q: What is Fashion’s Night Out?
A: Fashion’s Night Out is an unprecedented global initiative created in 2009 in a partnership between American Vogue, the Council of Fashion Designers of America, NYC & Company, and the City of New York to celebrate fashion, restore consumer confidence, boost the industry’s economy, and put the fun back in shopping.

Events take place in every city worldwide, so be sure to check local retailers and see what’s in store for September 8th.  If you’re in New York, you know very well to plan your night out — you may start on the Upper West Side and at the end of the evening find yourself in SoHo.
One of the best and favorites is Bergdorf Goodman; the department store has an incredibly detailed and star-studded schedule you won’t want to miss.  However, if you’re one to meet and mingle with designers, go to Saks Fifth Avenue, chat, play Pictionary (like last year with Chris Benz, Peter Som, Prabal Gurung, and Zac Posen).  Henri Bendel may be smaller in comparison but the New York icon certainly throws a chic, classy cocktail event!  I personally look forward to the Marc Jacobs Carnival along with 3.1 Phillip Lim, but again, who knows?  We’ll also see if the Boyfriend braves price tags at Harry Winston.

Sprinkles, the May 7th sneak peek

14 May

Last Saturday I attended the sneak peek event for Sprinkles Cupcakes (which officially opened yesterday, by the way), and let’s just say I was very thankful for sending in my RSVP; there was a long line down Lexington, and even those who arrived and were on the guestlist had to wait about half an hour to enter the store.
Once inside, the colorful and playful decor only slightly distracted me from the main attraction: the cupcake display window!  Behind a sheet of glass, wooden shelves were filled with columns and rows of cupcakes — honestly, it reminded me so much of Swirlz Cupcakes in Chicago, I had some high hopes.
I was also super fortunate to meet Sprinkles founder, cupcake-whisperer Candace Nelson.  In fact, I hardly noticed her standing in the corner as everyone clamored around the order counter.  I may have acted like a kid in a candy store (young adult in a cupcake store, same difference) but she was a real sweetheart.  I sampled the strawberry, peanut butter chocolate, cinnamon sugar, and banana cupcakes, tastefully rich and moist but the frostings killed me — too sweet and dense, with the exception of cinnamon sugar, which was coated with cinnamon sugar instead of frosting.  And when I left, I had another four in tow: vanilla, red velvet, black and white, and coconut.  What, they were complimentary!

The delay in uploading video should serve as one reason why I need a new Macbook Pro; my poor five-year-old (and counting) cannot process AVCHD, mostly because it doesn’t know what AVCHD is.

IDENTITIES 2011

24 Apr

It felt great to be back in this familiar setting — this time, as someone watching from the front row (across from Anna Sui and Bryanboynice).  Of the fashion shows on campus, IDENTITIES tends to stay truer to the meaning and purpose of one, and with this year’s event sponsor MCM, it presented some beautiful, colorful prints on light fabrics reminiscent of those seen in the fall runway shows.

Meet my new best friend Bryanboy!  He was ever-so friendly; I let him know I was a huge fan and thankfully he was flattered, not creeped out.  It was sweet getting to know him, realizing he’s like anyone else — world-famous fashion blogger aside, he travels and works until exhaustion, meeting so many people only to touch their lives for a brief couple seconds.  You’ll always have a friend in me — safe travels and until next time!
